Mr. Sam Ewing
-
Owner
Ewing and Associates
Customer Since: 1995
Sam Ewing, owner of Ewing and Associates, a consulting organization that provides program and school improvement process support, uses Remark Office OMR to score and report on surveys as well as locally developed formative assessments that are aligned to state standards. For many of his projects, he obtains student demographic information from a database. He takes advantage of the mail merge feature of his database application to merge the student identifier onto the forms in the form of a barcode. Remark Office OMR reads the barcoded student identifier and then using the Remark software’s Database Lookup feature, outputs all of the NCLB demographic information from the database. This demographic information is used for reporting to help schools see if they are meeting year progress mandates. One notable application where Mr. Ewing used Remark Office OMR was administering pre- and post-tests to 4000-6000 students in a university math and science center. The assessments helped measure the effectiveness of instructor training.
In addition to the “great reports,” Mr. Ewing says he likes that the software is easy to use, pointing out that he “can train people so they can quickly do their own scanning in about 3 hours.” Mr. Ewing packages the software with training and service to provide a complete solution to his customers. We thank Mr. Ewing for spreading the word about Remark Office OMR through his training and implementation, and providing feedback from the field to Gravic to help shape the product.
Dr. David Fresco
-
Associate Professor, Department of Psychology
Kent University
Customer Since: 1998
When Dr. David Fresco isn’t teaching, he is using Remark Office OMR and Remark Web Survey to collect survey data from clinical research studies. He is continually making a difference in the public health sector with the help of the Remark software. Dr. Fresco uses the software for NIH trials, surveying college students participating in studies as well as other research participants. One notable project where Remark Office OMR was used was a public health study monitoring 80 patients in two programs.
When asked about the software, he says “it’s easy to get the hang of it.” He has been able to train about a dozen graduate students on how to use the software in minutes, and now they are teaching new students so he does not have to be directly involved. He also likes the flexibility of designing his own forms. We thank Dr. Fresco for helping us find exhibiting opportunities and telling countless colleagues about the Remark software over the years.
Dr. Shaukat Malik
-
SUNY - Stony Brook University
Customer Since: 1999
Dr. Shaukat Malik is a Research Analyst at Stony Brook University. He uses Remark Office OMR primarily to process alumni surveys. With the number of alumni surveys he needs to process, tabulating the data by hand became quite costly and time consuming. However, using Remark Office OMR allows him to quickly capture the data and then easily export it to formats such as SPSS for more detailed analysis. Dr. Malik was our first user at SUNY and has since told many colleagues about its wonders. Other departments such as the Career Center and Student Affairs now use the software.
In addition to being user friendly, Dr. Malik finds one of the greatest assets of the software to be “the continual updates that are made based on user feedback.” We thank Dr. Malik for helping shape the software with his feedback and spreading the word about it throughout the university.
Dr. Ann Martin
-
Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College
Customer Since: 2002
Dr. Ann Martin is the Assessment Coordinator at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College. She has been using the Remark software since 1999 (at a previous position) and 2002 in her current position. She processes hundreds of student evaluations of instructors and courses, along with workshop evaluations and other types of surveys. With the use of Remark Office OMR, she has assisted the tribal panning planning efforts on the Lac Courte Oreilles reservation. Dr. Martin also helps others prepare their scannable forms.
Dr. Martin loves the ability to “design her own forms and to not be tied down to a specific type of scanner.” She likes the cost effectiveness of the software and the ability to “do it her way.” Dr. Martin recently spoke about using Remark Office OMR for her evaluations and surveys at the Higher Learning Commission annual conference. We thank Dr. Martin for talking up Remark at the college and presenting the software at tradeshows.
Dr. Zvia Naphtali
-
Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor
New York University
Customer Since: 1994
Dr. Zvia Naphtali is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Public Administration at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University. She has been using Remark Office OMR to help many non-profits with their numerous surveys. One notable research effort was at New York University’s Institute for Education and Social Policy, where Dr. Naphtali helped develop a number of surveys for a project on Performance-Driven Budgeting: The Example of New York City's Schools. You can read about the study at: http://eric.uoregon.edu/publications/digests/digest168.html. Another was when Dr. Naphtali was the Data Manager for a study on the not-for-profit sector in New York City, where they developed a large number of surveys using Remark: http://www.nycnonprofits.org/exec_summary/index.html#exec1.
What Dr. Naphtali enjoys most about the software is that it is “uncomplicated and easy to use.” Currently Dr. Naphtali is teaching at New York University, most notably teaching a Surveys and Interviews course where she invites Gravic for a Remark presentation each fall. We thank Dr. Naphtali for her continual feedback and promotion of our software.
