Remark Customer Hall of Fame
We want to recognize the following customers for their long-time use of the Remark products and continual feedback that has helped shape our products into what they are today. Read on to learn more about these super users and what they do with the Remark software.

Dr. James Campbell

• Professor

Dr. James Campbell is a professor in the Department of Administrative and Instructional Leadership at St. John’s University. His department is responsible for training the superintendents and principals for the present and future. They replaced a traditional scanning system that was error prone with Remark Office OMR and Remark Web Survey to survey children, parents and the adult community in the US and nine countries. For foreign language surveys, they provide the form with the bubbles on it so that the survey administrator can fill in the foreign text. His valuable research has enabled him to author many books and articles, particularly for parents.

Dr. Campbell says he likes that the software “gives him control over the forms he can use, saving money on professional printers and forms.” One way they use this flexibility is to add cartoons to the forms that are geared toward children, which makes the forms more interesting. One of Dr. Campbell’s largest projects was a test for 1000 children that allowed them to garner achievement data and then perform factor analysis. While Dr. Campbell says that, “scanning is a big improvement, Remark Web Survey is a dream.” Being able to collect data so quickly and easily over the Internet is a huge upgrade. We often see Dr. Campbell at tradeshows providing us with suggestions or telling someone else about the potential of the Remark solution. Dr. Paul Rendulic

Dr. Paul Rendulic is the president of Performetrics of Florida, which is a research and evaluation firm that conducts many survey research projects in the education, non-profit, government and private business sectors. He began using Remark Office OMR in 1997 to replace manual data collection methods. Soon after, he began moving projects to the web with Remark Web Survey. Dr. Rendulic collects all types of information with Remark, from teacher and student data in the K-12 setting to income tax information for insurance companies to market branding information for financial institutions. One particularly interesting project involved a community survey to determine whether to merge the Orlando Philharmonic with the youth symphony. Dr. Rendulic combined Remark Office OMR and Remark Web Survey for this project to reach the greatest number of people (members, patrons, students, funders, etc.).

When asked about the software, he says, “I would be dead in the water if I didn’t have Remark.” While the web is growing in popularity, paper has not gone away, and the ability to combine data from Remark Office OMR and Remark Web survey “without sophisticated data manipulation” has made his life easier. He can now dedicate his time to doing what he was trained to do and explaining the data to his clients, as opposed to spending tons of time collecting the data. Dr. Rendulic’s wide array of uses of the software have made him an invaluable contributor to the Remark products. Ms. Julie West

Julie West is the Coordinator of Research and Special Projects for the Student Housing Services at the University of Guelph. She uses Remark Web Survey for the mounds of research her department collects.
She conducts research projects on service satisfaction, staff and training evaluations, creates student registrations, runs fundraisers via the web, and has worked with the psychology department (and others) on a wide variety of projects. Recently she ran fundraisers for charity where respondents had to match a baby picture or pet picture to a staff member or discover little known information about colleagues in the game ‘Two truths and a lie’. They are continually doing staff evaluations where students and residents rate the student staff, as well as daily training evaluations. In all, Julie is conducting 27 different web surveys.

What she enjoys most about the software is its ability to neatly collect open-ended questions. Prior to using Remark Web Survey, staff members had to manually type comments into their data collection system. When she showed them the comments in Remark Web Survey, they were amazed that it took ”a matter of seconds to convert the comments.” Ms. West finds the software easy to learn and greatly appreciates the flexibility it gives her in tailoring a survey to any audience.
