Credit Card Fraud Detection

Credit Card Fraud Detection

PROBLEM:

A major provider of services to credit card companies needed to support its customers with fraud detection. Transactions were captured by the application running on HP NonStop Servers and replicated to a Solaris Server running Oracle. However this current system was extremely slow, taking several hours to detect a fraudulent credit card when it was trying to be used during a purchase transaction. The provider wanted the card flagged immediately, in sub-second time, so that the transaction could then be halted, and the card deactivated.

SHADOWBASE SOLUTION - Heterogeneous Application Integration Systems:

  • The credit card transactions are transformed in-flight by Shadowbase to the format required by the Oracle database.
  • Complex queries are run against the Oracle database to monitor card activity for suspected fraudulent activities, which if found, are then reported to the customer.
  • If a suspected fraudulent transaction is detected, an indication of transaction is immediately returned to the NonStop system to prevent the transaction from taking place.
  • The credit card is then deactivated.
