Hello Everyone,
Welcome to the Fall 2009 edition of the Gravic Shadowbase Newsletter, our semi-annual news update from the Shadowbase Products Group. It has been a busy six months, and my hope is to convey to you the highlights. Always feel free to contact us for more detail in these or any of the other areas where our solutions can be of help to you.
Since our last newsletter, we attended the HPTF&E symposium in Las Vegas in June, and basically we saw far fewer of you than in previous shows…this is not surprising, of course, as the economy has basically eliminated many company travel and training budgets. Suspecting that the attendance was going to be muted, the show from our perspective was a (somewhat surprising) success as we were able to meet with a number of you on a more relaxed level and spend some quality time delving into the details of your companies’ needs and how we might be able to help (or continue to help) satisfy them. Hot topics included our active/active business continuity advances, and our announcement of Shadowbase solutions for active/active replication of ACI Base24™ environments. For example, Shadowbase Base24 support provides:
- Uni-directional Active/Passive for Disaster Recovery
- Uni-directional Sizzling-Hot-Takeover Active/“Almost Active” for High Availability
- Bi-directional Active/Active for Continuous Availability
- Heterogeneous Data Warehouse Feeds
- Real-Time Event-Driven Business Intelligence Solutions

We have been busy on a number of additional development fronts, including enhancements to our MySQL support, native SQL/MX table support, and the Shadowbase “compare and repair” technology for validating whether a target database matches the source. We released the Shadowbase ETL product, for extracting, loading, and transforming data for snap-shot loading of target data warehouse environments, including non-audited source file or table support. We are also working on a target-side disk queuing option for Shadowbase environments where the target database goes offline. We continue to hone our Shadowbase Plus SR synchronous replication approach, and are actively talking to customers about their needs in this area as we work on the implementation. If any of these areas are of interest to you, please contact us.
We also recently attended the Mid-Atlantic Tandem Users Group (MATUG) meeting at the end of July at AOL’s facilities in Dulles, VA. The group formally voted to join Connect, and the attendees were treated to another excellent (free) training day on NonStop Integrity migration, courtesy of HP. President Rob Lesan, of AOL, was a gracious host, and many thanks go out to him and George Ryan, the HP liaison to MATUG, for putting the meeting together.
We will be presenting at these upcoming fall shows: presenting remotely at MITUG, Michigan NonStop User Group Meeting on Nov. 9; OTUG, Ohio NonStop User Group Meeting on Nov. 12; GTUG: German NonStop User Group’s European NonStop Conference, Darmstadt, Germany, Nov. 18-19; and BITUG: British Isles NonStop User Group’s National NonStop Meeting, The BIG SIG, London, Dec. 2-3.
We are pleased to report that the Gravic IP team was awarded another patent, US Patent No. 7,539,898 entitled Method of increasing system availability by assigning process pairs to processor pairs on May 31, 2009. Click the title for more information.
Like many of you, we have been wondering just where all this “social media” Web 2.0 content and networking is heading, and have created Facebook and LinkedIn accounts to better “plug in.” We also have been blogging away on our Shadowbase blog site, and look forward to perhaps a virtual chat with you at http://www.gravic.com/shadowbase/blog. Please visit us on any of these sites and let us know what you think.
For additional information about Gravic’s products and services, including free whitepapers on how Shadowbase data replication solutions can solve your company’s business continuity, data integration and synchronization, and real-time business intelligence challenges, please visit: www.gravic.com/shadowbase.
