Shadowbase now supports Base24™ - “It’s a beautiful thing.” We are very excited about our recent selection by a Canadian bank to use Shadowbase as the replication infrastructure for their Base24 Classic™ environment. The bank did an extensive review of potential alternatives to their existing HP RDF architecture over the last several months. Their goal was to enhance their replication environment to support a fully active/active replication architecture. Shadowbase along with another product offered by ACI (the Base24 application provider), was evaluated by an extensive proof of concept, customer reference, and cost analysis. Shadowbase was the clear winner and we are currently in the process of implementing this solution. They have provided some excellent enhancements to Shadowbase that will make our Base24 offering second to none in the marketplace. We are thankful to their team for the consistent fairness during the evaluation, our development and support teams for their professional efforts, and of course our great customers for their references. We look forward to working with other Base24 customers in the future to provide an excellent replication solution at an affordable price.

We have a PowerPoint slide that we often show in presentations that states Shadowbase is “an extensible architecture.” The point we are trying to make is that Shadowbase, while providing the basis for an excellent business continuity architecture, has many other uses. Case in point is our current activity at AOL. Some of you may be aware that AOL has a four-node H Series complex to support their AIM and ICQ login authentication databases. Shadowbase provides the infrastructure to maintain the synchronization of the data in a full active/active environment. AOL needed a method for providing a detailed analysis of the profile information residing in the AIM/ICQ database. Their solution was to use Shadowbase to replicate relevant data from the HP NonStop complex to several read-only MySQL database servers. Shadowbase replicates to the databases on these servers in real-time, allowing for offloading the complex querying from the NonStop host. This solution is an excellent example of extending the use of replication from business continuity to business intelligence, accomplished by using the same proven replication technology.

As you can see we genuinely like to discuss our customers’ success stories. One of the ways we share this information is via this newsletter, at regional user group meetings (MATUG at AOL, Dulles, VA in July), and at HPTF. We will be in Las Vegas in June (Booth 234) and look forward to seeing many of you at that event. Thanks again to our customers for their ongoing support - we sincerely appreciate it.
