Gravic, an inventor of bi-directional replication and a world leader in providing high availability and continuous availability, now provides BASE24 support in its patented Shadowbase product line.

Shadowbase Data Replication Solutions for BASE24

BASE24

Continuous Availability & Active/Active Architectures
Gravic’s patented bi-directional replication technology provides you the highest level of disaster tolerance available, enabling two or more simultaneously active systems, each with it's own copy of the database, within the architecture. Scale your applications and databases across multiple physical nodes to create one logical system that can scale linearly and survive the failure of an entire node. Shadowbase active/active technology supports various architectures that can avoid data collisions, as well as provide for data collision identification and resolution using various algorithms when running in the “update anywhere” model. Shadowbase data replication provides continuous processing solutions for Oracle, MySQL, DB2, SQL Server, Sybase, and HP NonStop databases on UNIX, Linux, Windows, and NonStop platforms.

High Availability & Active/“Almost-Active” Architectures
Shadowbase solutions also support “Sizzling-Hot-Takeover” architectures where your backup node’s application is running and ready to take over on a moment’s notice. In these architectures, your application is running on both the active and the backup node, but is only accepting “update” transactions on the active node. Your application on the backup node can be performing read-only query-style transactions, and can also periodically accept verification or test “update” transactions against test accounts to verify end-to-end processing. This architecture greatly enhances fail-over testing, as the backup node processing can be tested at any point without impacting the production application. This Shadowbase architecture is configured for bi-directional replication, so that should a fail-over to your backup node occur, the return replication channel is already configured and will queue the changes to your failed node until it can be recovered.  This architecture is useful for your applications that cannot run in an active/active mode due to the possibility of data collisions.

Disaster Recovery & Active/Backup Architectures
Load and maintain your hot-site backups of production databases for seamless recovery in the event of a primary system failure. This Shadowbase mode is typically configured for uni-directional replication, which allows your backup system’s application to be up and running with the data files opened for read as well as update processing (often referred to as a “hot” backup). Your application can be running but only have the database open for read-only access (often referred to as a “warm” backup), or the application can be down (often referred to as a “cold” backup).

Operational System Data Warehouse

Real-Time Data Integration
You may be increasingly turning from traditional batch-oriented techniques to real-time data integration to eliminate the scourge of out-of-date data. Real-time data integration communicates accurate, timely data from point A to point B as the events are occurring so you can make better-informed business-critical decisions. Integrate your application data with sub-second latency across two or more homogeneous or heterogeneous platforms and databases. Use uni-directional or bi-directional replication depending on the needs of your applications and projects. Shadowbase integration provides event-driven replication to support real-time processing and operational decision-making as the events occur.

Database, System, or Site Migrations with Zero Application Downtime
Seamlessly migrate to your new systems or sites, or upgrade your application or database, with minimal or zero application downtime with Shadowbase Zero Downtime Migrations (ZDM). A large amount of your system downtime could be due to planned outages required for upgrades, maintenance conversions, or migrations. The requirement could be for an operating system upgrade, a new application release, database maintenance, or installing new hardware. With Shadowbase ZDM, your interruptions are handled without denial of application services to end users, therefore scheduled downtime is eliminated. All that is needed is a location (on the same node or another node, depending on the type of conversion) for the new environment. Keep your new databases synchronized with the old until all applications have been migrated to the new environment, avoiding the risk of the big bang cutover approach.  Shadowbase ZDM facilitates testing the new environment ahead of time too, so that the users are cutover to a known–working environment.

Real-Time Business Intelligence
Feed events from your BASE24 environments into the data warehouse or data mart rules engine as they occur, optionally returning results to control operational decision-making processing. Shadowbase solutions provide you the replication and online facilities for real-time business information systems and the infrastructure to implement extreme-availability architectures. These facilities include a real-time data replication engine that provides high-speed data replication among a variety of databases and platforms, and SOLV, the Shadowbase online loading, verification, and validation utility for performing the initial loads of the target environment as well as periodically checking that the target data matches the source. Many of Shadowbase global installations are active/active, geographically distributed systems that achieve availabilities in excess of six nine’s on average (less than 30 seconds per year of downtime). Running a real-time business intelligence (RTBI) system as active/active requires that Shadowbase technology replicates database changes between two geographically separated RTBI systems. If one system fails, then the other system is immediately ready for the real-time business information services.
