Shadowbase for Business Continuity
- Shadowbase® Solutions for Choosing your Business Continuity Solution to Match Your Business Availability Requirements
The Shadowbase product suite from Gravic, Inc. provides a full range of replication technologies to satisfy your most demanding IT availability requirements. Selecting Shadowbase solutions as your data replication technology to achieve your business continuity goals is a focus in this white paper. Business continuity encompasses those activities that your enterprise performs to maintain consistency and recoverability of its operations and services. The availability of application services provided by your enterprise’s IT infrastructure is only one of many facets of business continuity, albeit an extremely important one. Application availability depends upon the ability of your IT services to survive any fault, whether it is a server failure, a network fault, or a data center disaster. Shadowbase data replication is an enabling technology for achieving high availability and even continuous availability for your application services.
- Shadowbase® for Disaster Recovery
A unidirectional Shadowbase asynchronous replication engine is useful to maintain synchronization of a backup database with its primary database in an active/passive architecture. The backup system is typically idle as far as update processing is concerned and provides disaster recovery. Should the primary system fail, the backup system has a current copy of the database (within a fraction of a second) and is ready to take over the application functions that were provided by the primary system. Failover to the backup system can be accomplished in minutes if it is a hot standby. That is, the backup system has the applications loaded and ready so that application processing could continue as soon as the applications mount the database volumes and the system is tested.
- Shadowbase® for Active/Active
Active/active systems provide a wide range of advantages compared to active/passive systems. By extending this architecture to bidirectional data replication, both nodes can be actively processing transactions in an active/active configuration since each has an up-to-date copy of the application. Shadowbase technology accomplishes bidirectional replication by using two replication engines, one in each direction, that share information about the data being replicated to avoid data ping-ponging. An active/active configuration provides disaster tolerance and continuous processing, because if a system fails, further transactions are rerouted to surviving nodes in the application network. Recovery can be accomplished in seconds, often so quickly that no one notices that there has been an outage. The Shadowbase asynchronous data replication engine supports collision-avoidance methods. If collisions cannot be avoided, the Shadowbase engine provides the mechanisms necessary for detecting and resolving data collisions by embedding application logic into the replication engine.
- Shadowbase® for Zero Downtime Migrations
The Shadowbase product suite from Gravic, Inc. includes the exclusive Shadowbase Zero Downtime Migrations (ZDM) product. Choosing Shadowbase ZDM improves your application availability by providing high and even continuous availability application services. This white paper addresses how to totally eliminate planned downtime for your application services when using Shadowbase software to perform migrations, upgrades, conversions, or other disruptive system activity, regardless if performing a homogeneous or heterogeneous project.
Shadowbase for Data Integration and Application Integration
- Shadowbase® Streams for Data Integration and Application Integration
The Shadowbase product suite from Gravic, Inc. distributes real-time critical data to applications throughout your enterprise. This white paper reviews Shadowbase products including achieving high or continuous availability by synchronizing your active or passive redundant systems, integrating applications, feeding data warehouse and real-time business intelligence facilities, and driving ETL (extract, transform, and load) utilities. Shadowbase Streams, a member of the Shadowbase solutions set, streams your data generated by one application to other applications and facilities. Shadowbase Streams for Application Integration provides the facilities for integrating your existing applications at the data or event-driven level in order to create new and powerful functionality for your enterprise.
